Whenever I start a new blog, I always feel funny when seeing the “Hello World!” first post. For a person who only thinks it’s a simple – sample term for a sample title of a sample post, he will probably not understand the humorous lies within it.
There are a few stories and theories regarding the origin of this term. However, most agree that it came from the earlier days of the computer world. Some first-gen programmers wrote books with simple lines of code to guide beginners. The beginners of those next generations continue to pass on knowledge to the people of the next gens. Since then, “Hello World!” has become an untold standard!
It is well-known that one of a beginner programmer’s habits when starting to write his program is to almost always include “Hello World”. It’s a habit, an unwritten law, or whatever it is called. Sometimes it comes from the subconscious of that programmer. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with many programmers in my life – some even belong to the first class – and have seen a hundred thousand lines of code.
Needless to say, a lot of “Hello World!”.
I strongly believe that the programmers of this popular publishing platform are no exception. Anyway, just like any other blog I created, for now I simply skip editing the “Hello World” post, delete it, and start a new post instead.
Now, enough for a B.s.! Let’s come to the business.
So, after a few moments of serious consideration, I named my first post “The very first post”! What a name! It sounds much better than the WordPress “Hello World” version for a fresh start.
It is 2:04 am, and I am parking in a resting place on autoroute A7 “A. du Soleil.” (lit. Autoroute of the Sun?), enjoying the quiet night outside, and writing this. It is spring in Europe, and the outside temperature is 18.5 degrees Celcius. For me, it is not quite “spring” yet.
I’m on the last part of my three months road trip around the southern part of West Europe, partly business, partly leisure. I had been through a super busy 2022 with a lot of changes. My life needed a refresh, and I went on the trip, searching for inspiration, and didn’t even look back.
Today I returned from a one-week trip to Corsica. The island is beautiful, and it is like a heaven for nature lovers. I stayed at a beach hotel near Bastia Port during my last days on the island. It’s a beautiful, medium-sized hotel. One side of the hotel is a beach, and the other is covered with pine trees.
Watching the hotel owners and staff moving around, doing their jobs with passion, and having chances to talk to the hotel owners made me think a lot about my life. The ocean is calm, and the sunrises and sunsets are amazing. It’s still a bit chilly in April, and I sit in the middle of that wonderful scene, thinking about what awaits me ahead.
My life badly needed a change.
I created a list of things I needed to do before returning home to my daily work, my daily life, and my daily routine.
And this project, “Highway Happiness”, is one of the things I listed on that list. I have to do several important things in the next six months. And this blog is created to help me record the progress of things I need to do. That’s just a little purpose – yes, I could simply write a diary instead.
I always want to write. Not as a professional writer but to write whatever I wanted. Although I live in Germany and both German and English are not my native languages, I choose to write in English to improve my writing skill and also to help me practice more English.
My friends recently started to laugh at me because of my “Denglish” (Deutsch (German) + English). After years of living here and not having many chances to talk in English anymore, unless, on rare occasions, calling my overseas colleagues, I started to forget many words.
Despite that, the content will relate much to life in Germany, where I live. Other content will be about tech, travel, and thoughts. I will consider translating some of my articles into German if necessary. But for now, I just started. There is no better day to start something than today, isn’t it true?
I hope you will find exciting and valuable information in my articles, bear with me and support me during this project’s journey.
What exactly this project is about will be revealed slowly on “Highway Happiness”.
